It's not okay to increase the edition size if there are say only 13 buyers and to keep another 7 open to sell over the next 12 months.

The sword must be sold out at the end of this order period. Or if a buyer cannot afford it upfront, perhaps some sort of payment plan. Weta has done that for one buyer that I know of in relation to Anduril. But I think it was done on the down low and not a standard process for everyone.

I'm saying this as someone who would actually like to purchase Eowyn's blade but right now in today's economy I cannot justify spending that amount of money upfront for a luxury purchase.

Yep. The prop world can be a crazy world you don't want to go into. Star Wars fans have been debating for decades over the dings and dents and proof of heritage/provenance of Darth Vader helmets. Even accusations of stolen molds etc.

What you'll also find is some of the serious prop collectors don't actually share their collection online because some of it are quite possible fact stolen goods where production crew might have taken off with some particular pieces to sell.

Nah don't think Eowyn's blade is the fastest selling. I think the first three MSSC pieces sold out in just over a week.

Just in case any of you are still deciding between satin, aged and the mirror finishes. I found this old pic that Weta sent me back when I was purchasing Glamdring. Different sword but same weapon smith and same excellent standards.

I think the pics struggle to capture the mirror finish only because that type of finish is heavily affected by the surrounding light. It looks completely different indoors compared to outdoors for example. Which is what you would expect with the word mirror.
I mostly want to see pics of what the bronze looks like polished on Eowyns sword. I can’t imagine it no matter how hard I try how that portion of it would look like with a mirror polish to it.

Sorry if already answered but is the sword shown on the Weta site more or less the weathered look?

Yeah that’s weathered. Understand though the MSSC will probably not be nearly that weathered if you do the weathered option. Peter usually doesn’t go crazy when weathering the MSSC pieces.

The email said they were giving 3 days for everyone that ordered one to respond so I doubt we will hear anything on it til Sunday or Monday I’m guessing if they decide to increase the run to 20.

I have not had an email hmmm this id disappointing news. I wonder how they would feel about a cancellation and request for deposit refund? We have entered in to a contract after all
Arise! Arise, riders of Théoden! Spears shall be shaken, shields shall be splintered - a sword day, a red day, ere the sun rises!

Don't expect them to care. I gave them a 1k deposit for a year that they failed to deliver on and I had to chase them down to get the money back.
But there is precedent for them reducing costs due to a change in circumstances. When the John Howe bronze line was announced I think the original price was 6k, which I paid. Then they released the faux bronze line due to outcry over cost and came back to me and refunded me, I think, 1500 dollars, which I was thrilled over.

If they increase the ES on the Eowyn sword I think they should drop the cost to 8500 on both pieces. I bet that would shake loose some scabbard purchases. Something about a 20k+ number is psychologically jarring.

From my understanding due to the majority being against increasing the ES, it seems it will stay at 15.

I also received a reply to my feedback which said it was unlikely that they would proceed with an increase in edition size.

So for those who ordered, what finish did everyone finally decide on?

I’m glad it will stay at 15 if that’s the case. I thought it made sense to keep the edition size the same as the Witch King size for Eowyns sword.

As to what I’m going to choose for my finish I’m still undecided between polish and aged. In the end I’ll probably get aged to match all my other pieces. I want to see some polished pics of it before deciding though. I want to see how the horse heads look all polished up.

Weta sent me good pics of the Boromir sword showing the difference between polished and age. It's a subtle thing for sure. Mirror vs satin, I think I can visualize this, the question is whether the 1k price is worth the overall transformation in the display of the piece, I suppose.

Several folks indicate they are waiting on pics, etc to decide. The email from Weta makes it seem like you need to make all these decisions ASAP, so how much time do we have here???

My situation isn’t the norm since I have extended time to decide since mine will be one of the last ones made and will not be started until the summer. I specifically asked to have mine done as late as possible prior to agreeing to purchase since I might be able to also afford the scabbard by then. Since I’ve bought so many swords from them already they were willing to hold off on when Peter will start on my sword.

Depends if it's just the blade or if it's the entire sword that actually gets the mirrored finish. I feel that's where a lot of the uncertainty comes from, at least from my point of view, if the whole sword get's the finish or not, and how much it would differ from what we know from the movies. Really want the mirrored blade, but will probably listen to Peters personal preference and go for satin.

Never bought a custom sword before so feels like a huge decision. On the fence about getting the scabbard as well, so this is 20 years dreaming of getting a sword from the lord of the rings, all piled up in in an email asking me to decide for "option A" or "option B". Want to get it right.

I guess my mirror finished sword might turn into the reference model for those of you who are on the fence and wait for pictures of a production version. I already committed heresy and ordered a mirror finished sword of the Witch King, so I felt I had to get the same for Eowyn. I am quite eager to know how the former turned out. Weta told me the Witch King sword should be done by the end of November, so I am waiting for pictures any day now. I think I might have been the only one who went for mirror finish on that sword since they had no reference photos for me back in July.

I’m sure you could always just ask Peter to only mirror polish the blade if you don’t want the bronze parts polished I’m sure.

If you can afford the scabbard I’d recommend it. Weta makes some really beautiful scabbards. And Eowyns is one of the most ornate of many of them.

Well Weta said no edition size change (staying at 15) and all swords have been allocated. Also a new MSSC will be announced late next year(I really hope it gets pushed back so I at least have more time to save).

I am with you. This is my first sword, I purchased the final piece available #14 and am just trying to finalize the issues with finish, scabbard, etc. Did I mention my daughter is named Eowyn. So yeah, of all the MSSC swords this was the one to get for me.

Congrats on getting the Eowyn sword! I’m glad you were able to get one before it sold out.

Well, it's certainly true to say that "hope springs eternal" and in my case my hope was coupled with a large dose of luck. I've been fortunate enough to be able to acquire MSSC Glamdring #14, and couldn't be more pleased with the piece. As soon as I get it setup with the display case, I'll post some pictures. All I can say is "don't give up" if you're looking for that special piece; sometimes things just end up working out...
