Duly noted and I respect your opinion. That is the main reason why they wouldn’t do a re-release. In terms of the small scale Sting you may be in the majority, don’t really know for sure until they would release that version. I’m sure it would sell out regardless of scale since it is such a popular and iconic sword. Thank you for discussing this btw.

You going aged, satin, or polished? Also are you first one up
        for completion?

Personally, I actually find it more interesting, and you could maybe say «true» or «realistic» with the human scale version of Sting. I think some continuity between the swords in regards of scaling sitting next to each other, gives a better impression of how they would be in «real life». I have the cheaper United Cutlery version and would love to see how it would look more like an actual dagger, and not just a smaller sword. Especially thinking how much focus this sword is being given by other characters as being a dagger and not a proper sword.

On the other hand, there’s definitely no right or wrong here, just my two cents after giving it some thought. Love the hobbit scale version!

I doubt I am first on completion as I reserved the final number. My preference is the aged look as shown on the site, but I know that isn't representative of what will come. The aged finish, to me, looks like he adds pings into the metal with some abrasions. Not really sure what is happening with the witchking blade as shared here? Forced patina?? My sense is that one needs to really see the mirror finish to bite the bullet. I cannot discern the difference from pics online and the 1k upcharge is hard to swallow. My bigger debate is whether to get the scabbard or not.

Yeah this is my take on it as well. It's interesting because the movie scale pieces really suggest the target is the actual film prop and not entirely JUST "made by the same hands of..."

cstojano Understood. Yeah the aging on the site/in the movie wouldn’t be representative of what you end up with. I think the witch-king sword has the forced patina and some intentional pitting/wasting which is by design based on the movies just not totally taking away from it still being a functional blade. I always thought it was funny when they announced that sword and showed the non-wasted or clean blade and I think the images on the website were of an-aged version. I was thinking something here is wrong if they are offering this as the standard lol. I thought the aged looked should have been the “standard” offering at no additional cost and if you wanted it aged even more they would charge you then.

Ended up ordering the satin finish for the Éowyn sword. Unless I don’t change my mind in the last minute Also decided on ordering the scabbard

                SATIN FINISH ON UC SWORDS?
What would you consider the finish on the United Cutlery swords to be? Are they finished in satin or how would they possibly differ from the mass manufactured finish to the master swordsmith satin finish?

                VIDEO AND PICTURES
Looking forward to posting pictures of mine when it arrives in a few months time! I’ll make sure to also make a video so it’s easier for other to decide between the finishes. If someone with a weathered and mirrored finish would do the same, that would be fantastic. Even if it’s for swords they already have in their collection.

What time Are you looking at for the completion of your sword? I was told to expect 7 months for my sword to be completed, so end of June by the looks of it. I have no idea what my number in the que is though, but I have edition number 9.

TheWhiteHand have some good pictures of the mirror finish on page 11 or so in the other MSSC thread. Does looked amazing and made me decide to go for mirror finish myself.

ghettodactyl it was a little hard to tell from some of your earlier pictures that it was an aged finish but in these pics it shows up really well. I never realized that they added some minor pitting on the blade. This is a great example of how far they go with an aged finish. Very beautiful sword.

I figured these pics would give everyone the best example of what one would look like when you get one since I took these pics the day it arrived.

A big help, thanks. This sort of looks like a different kind of weathering than on the WK sword.

PS, the Photos button on these threads is the best thing since sliced bread.

I do still want to ask Peter if the swords in the UK museum are numbered pieces as part of the MSSC or if they are counted as artist proofs which would not be numbered. Me wanting Anduril and Glamdring I was just thinking of any way to make it happen. And if he’s allowed to make one artist proof of each maybe he’d be able to make me one too!
And I’m very glad Weta said no to you.

Weta should not remake any of their past swords. Period.

Definitely no new artist proofs. If EXISTING prototypes/artist proofs were to get sold on to collectors, that’s actually not okay as well. Artist proofs are not meant to get sold on. But I’m at least not as against that as the idea of Weta making artist proofs just because someone wants it now.

If another company were to purchase the license down the road and choose to make their own version of spring steel swords then that is another matter altogether. I wouldnt like it. But it is what it is. But as far as Weta is concerned, the MSSC should not have remakes.

Should they remake Anduril as Narsil? Absolutely not too. I would love to buy Narsil having missed out on Anduril and I would literally pay for the whole thing upfront in cash today if preorder went up but even then I say Narsil is unacceptable.

                              just my 5 cents.

I’d never see weta actually doing any proofs outside of the ones they did for the museum. With their license however they could technically do another run of most swords in one of the other different sizes though doing one of the other two sizes for Anduril or Glamdring would look strange in general. So I doubt they’ll ever make them for those pieces since the scale wouldn’t make any sense. Only the hobbit or dwarf swords really make sense in different scales for a collector. Plus there are so many swords in LOTR and only one release per year at most they have so many other pieces to do I don’t see them going back to any previous pieces besides maybe doing the smaller Sting or hobbit sting. Plus who knows how long Peter will stay working on swords, eventually he will have to retire at some point. I’m not sure how old he is but it’s got to be tiring work the older he gets.

The old UC museum collection pieces are heat treated steel I believe which were officially licensed. Though I’m pretty sure they’re not built to be usable at all still in their construction. Not sure if they’re rat tail construction or not.

I like the polished look of the blade. I wonder if you’re the only one that went for the mirror finish on it. Hopefully you’ll get it soon.

Indeed! I am not looking forward to the VAT when it arrives though. Unless customs treat this as art, I am probably looking at 25% VAT on $10,500, which is the price of the sword including shipping.

I asked Weta, and I was the only one who ordered a mirror-polished version, so it will be unique. It might negatively affect the resale value since it is not movie accurate, but hopefully I will never have to sell it.
